Support for Parents of Teens

As a parent of a teen or young adult, you want the best for your child. But, for some reason, things aren’t going so well. Life poses many challenges, for you and your family. It’s tough out there – so many pressures. You’re doing the best that you can, but in spite of this, your child is really struggling. Academic difficulties, problems with sleeping, perfectionism, anxiety, and depression – all of these can be a negative factor in your child’s life – and in yours.

I can help.

I am intensively trained in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and can teach your child valuable coping skills to deal with the pressure. I can also help your child to find ways to sleep better, manage emotions, and communicate more effectively with parents, teachers, and friends. The key to using skills, however, is to know when to use them – before it’s too late! We work on raising awareness – of triggers, patterns, and early warning signs in the body. This is especially important to learn. The practice of Mindfulness can help in this area, and many folks find this research-supported activity to be very helpful.

I provide a safe haven – for your child and for you.

Therapy creates a place where fears, conflicts, and struggles can be explored and understood. I accompany your child as this journey through feelings, thoughts, and behaviors unfold. If needed, I can also advise you regarding best parenting practices to support your child in making significant changes in his or her life.

You’ll find options here.

To support you and your child, in addition to individual counseling sessions, I offer DBT Skills groups for Teens and Young Adults. I also offer Parenting support groups where parents of teens learn about DBT skills and have a place to express their concerns in a private and non-threatening environment.

You and your child do not have to do this on your own. Call me. I can help!
